New Constitutional Court judges elected

Parliament has chosen Francesco Saverio Marini, Roberto Cassinelli, Massimo Luciani, and Maria Alessandra Sandulli as the four new judges who will complete the necessary plenum for the Constitutional Court. The center-right and the opposition negotiated, with Prime Minister Meloni in contact with Schlein of the Democratic Party. The Lega had been the main obstacle to the agreement.

Building explodes in Cuneo

Among the victims, a man was killed and nine others were injured, two of them in serious condition. The incident occurred in the province of Cuneo, in the region of Piemonte,  where a building collapsed following an explosion, possibly due to a gas leak. Firefighters, assisted by specialized teams, continue searching through the rubble. Emergency services have also provided assistance to three people from nearby residences.

Two elderly people poisoned in healthcare facility

The local health authority (Asl) and the carabinieri are investigating the causes, inspecting the meal production chain after two elderly residents died from poisoning in a nursing home in the province of Florence. Two other residents are in serious condition. The cooking center supplying the facility has been closed for inspections, and the public prosecutor has ordered an autopsy.

Online scam operation uncovered in Naples

The operation involved sending deceptive SMS messages to unsuspecting individuals, directing them to counterfeit banking websites to steal their credentials and drain their accounts. In Naples’ Rione Sanità district, Carabinieri has dismantled an online fraud center.  A 27-year-old man has been reported in connection with the scheme. 

Severe weather hits Tuscany

In Talamone, a sudden downpour caused several boats in the harbor to overturn. Tuscany experienced severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and strong winds. On Giglio Island, landslides occurred, leading to road closures and disruptions. Authorities are assessing the damage and coordinating cleanup efforts. Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on weather alerts.

Eni and Renault join forces

The collaboration focuses on developing sustainable mobility solutions, including alternative fuels and cleaner energy sources. The two corporate giants have announced a strategic partnership to promote transport decarbonization. As part of the agreement, Eni also returns to Formula 1 as the official fuel and energy partner of the Alpine team, where it will test biofuels in racing.

Federica Brignone wins gold in Super-G

No other Italian athlete made the rankings in the giant slalom at the Ski World Championships in Saalbach, Austria, after Goggia and Bassino dropped out. Federica Brignone claimed gold with a time of 2:22.71, beating Alice Robinson and Paula Moltzan. Tomorrow, the men’s giant slalom will take place, with Marco Odermatt as the favorite and Italy aiming for a medal with Luca De Aliprandini, silver medalist at the Cortina World Championships.

Milan and Atalanta lose in the Champions League

February 12 was a tough night for Italian teams. In the first leg of the Champions League playoffs, Milan lost 0-1 to Feyenoord, while Atalanta was defeated 1-2 by Brugge. Milan’s coach, Conceição, stormed out of the post-match press conference after just 30 seconds. Both teams now risk missing out on the Round of 16. Awaited on February 13 Rome’s match against Porto in the Europa League.
