Naples: the earth shakes during the night

Zeta Italy News A 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck Campi Flegrei, with its epicenter between Pozzuoli and Bagnoli at a depth of 2.5 km. The quake, preceded by a loud rumble, caused panic, with residents in the area of Naples fleeing into the streets during the night. Minor damages were reported, including a ceiling collapse injuring one person. Authorities closed schools in Pozzuoli and Bagnoli for safety checks.

Twelve years of Pontificate 

Pope Francis had a quiet night at the Gemelli Polyclinic, as reported by the Holy See Press Office. In the hospital the Pope will celebrate the 12th anniversary of his election. His clinical condition remains stable, with improvements confirmed in a “complex condition”. The Pope continues high-flow oxygen therapy during the day and non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night.  

New report on Ramy Case: “It was his friend’s fault”

A forensic analysis ordered by the Milan Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Carabinieri’s pursuit of the motorcycle carrying Ramy Elgaml, the 24th of November 2024, was conducted correctly. No initial collision occurred; the crash resulted from the driver’s sudden maneuver. The 19-year-old Ramy died after hitting a traffic pole. The report attributes all fault to the victim’s friend who was driving. 

Tuscany’s end-of-life law become effective 

“It does not present the alleged statutory violations,” declared the Regional Guarantee Board of Tuscany. The guarantee body unanimously approved the end-of-life law, declaring it compliant with the regional statute. The law, passed on February 12, had been challenged by the center-right opposition, which filed an appeal, temporarily suspending its enforcement. With this decision, the law can now be enacted.

Ex-Conad executives investigated for corruption

Authorities have seized over €36 million and are scrutinizing consultancy payments made to a Milan-based firm linked to Former Conad CEO Francesco Pugliese and ex Financial Director Mauro Bosio. Pugliese and Bosio are under investigation for alleged private-sector corruption and self-laundering related to Conad’s acquisition of Auchan’s Italian stores.

Garlasco murder case reopened

Andrea Sempio, 37, underwent court-mandated DNA testing at Milan’s Montebello Barracks. Previously investigated and cleared in 2017, Sempio is now implicated in a reopened inquiry into the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi in the city of Garlasco (next to Pavia), for which her boyfriend, Alberto Stasi, is serving a 16-year sentence. Investigators will re-examine all evidence, including developing unidentified DNA profiles from the crime scene.

Case of intoxication, the conditions are stable 

A family from Cappelle sul Tavo, near Pescara, experienced carbon monoxide poisoning in the night between 12th and 13th of March. The household—comprising parents and their two children, aged one and three—was promptly attended to by 118 emergency responders and stabilized at Pescara’s civil hospital. Subsequently, they were transferred to Rome’s Umberto I hospital for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Their conditions are not critical. 

Generali considers increasing investments in Government Bonds

“By the end of 2024 our exposure to Btp was 45.6 billion euros” said CEO Philippe Donnet. The head of Generali announced that the company is evaluating the possibility of increasing its purchases of Italian government bonds (BTP). Donnet emphasized that market trends and strong growth in the life portfolio, with positive net inflows, naturally lead to considering higher investments in BTPs. 

A new leadership designated by Fashion house Versace 

Dario Vitale, formerly of the high italian brand Miu Miu, has been appointed as Versace’s new creative director, succeeding Donatella Versace, who will become from the first of April the chief fashion brand ambassador. Vitale began his career at Bottega Veneta and significantly contributed to Miu Miu’s growth during his 14-year tenure. This leadership change coincides with reports of Prada negotiating to acquire Versace from Capri Holdings 

Italian Athletes on La Thuile podium 

In the competition, Sofia Goggia secured second place, finishing 6 hundredths of a second behind German athlete Emma Aicher. Federica Brignone finished third, with a gap of 39 hundredths of a second. La Thuile Super-G is a women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup race held in La Thuile, Italy, featuring a super giant slalom (Super-G) event.
