Two mountaineers killed by Avalanche
The 38-year-old Elisa De Nardi and the 40-year-old Abel Ayala Anchundia, both from Veneto, passed away on the night of March 17. The two ski mountaineers had been swept away by an avalanche that occurred above Cortina d’Ampezzo, in Veneto region, on March 16. A third person, Andrea De Nardi, the brother of one of the victims, is hospitalized for hypothermia and an ankle injury.
Arrest made in connection to death of Italian university student
A young man from Rome province has been placed under house custody for “instigation or assistance to suicide” in the case of Andrea Prospero, a 19-year-old student found dead in Perugia on January 29. Investigations continue into the circumstances of his passing.
Terni, death after workplace accident
Sanderson Mendoza, a 26-year-old employed at metallurgic company Tapojärvi, has died after suffering severe burns. The accident happened at the Ast steel plant in Terni, in Umbria, on March 10. He passed away at Rome’s Sant’Eugenio Hospital. Mayor Stefano Bandecchi expressed deep sorrow, reaffirming the need for safer workplaces to prevent such tragedies.
Fraud discovered in the used car market
An advertisement for a Volkswagen with falsified mileage led to an investigation revealing fraudulent activity by a car dealer. Through a joint operation between the Guardia di Finanza and the Carabinieri in Bressanone, Trentino Alto-Adige, a scam in the used car market was uncovered. Six cars and 32,000 euros in cash were seized.

Historian passes away at 90
Born in Bagnara Calabra in 1933, he was a university professor and writer of influential works on modern history. Lucio Villari, historian and author, passed away on March 16, his daughter announces. He co-authored a history textbook with his brother Rosario and appeared on TV. Villari also acted in La Terrazza (1980).
Inter wins and stays on top of Serie A
