Mariano Giuttari, 21, carries dreams as big as his positivity. He’s from Foggia, an Apulian town that isn’t known for its reputation. “Did the city’s notoriety impact your personality?”, we ask he proudly replies that, despite this, he believes that, on the contrary, the negativity surrounding Foggia made him appreciate its community even more, describing it as a place where people look out for one another even more carefully. This tells a lot about how Mariano presents himself, as he likes to see the glass always half full.
Apulia and France run in his blood. Just like his grandfather, who moved to Lyon in the 1940s, Mariano chose Rome as his adoptive city. His studies at Luiss University granted him a degree in Political Science. Not completely satisfied with the chosen path, his experience at the Luiss Radio shed light on what his true passion is: storytelling. He has now decided to pursue a professional career in journalism.
“You can manage reality,” he explains while describing what drew him to journalism in the first place. His interest in the field comes from his enthusiasm for telling facts, but with a drizzle of his character. Being able to tell a story through a personal lens is what fascinates him the most. Culture and sports are his main targets, as both bring people together, create community, and allow individuals to express themselves. Mariano found this same sense of belonging through his love for music and concerts, a place where people unite, even for one night, in the same story. After attending many, the feeling of belonging as a creative is at the core of his persona.

While his strong curiosity exists in sociology and the way people function in society through culture, his interest in sports uncovers yet another of Mariano’s traits. “The gym bores me, I need to have a goal.” This is how Mariano approaches sports, but also how he navigates through life. To better explain that without a goal you don’t live life at your fullest, he uses the term “vivacchi”, doing just enough to make it. From the smallest routine activity to bigger perspectives of the future, he needs to be able to walk -or even run- towards an objective.
Founding a newspaper of his own is one of his biggest dreams when it comes to his professional aspirations. He believes that when looking at the news today, you are only able to see interpretations with completely opposite political and ideological views; that’s why he would like to provide a more cohesive service within his project, allowing for all viewpoints to survive in the same environment.
Mariano pictures himself in 10 years, as his focus remains on the profession itself, the strong ambition for his career is palpable. Looking forward in time he imagines to be dedicated to his own newsroom, growing and moving independently in the profession. Perhaps in Valencia, where he envisions himself next; youthful, culturally rich and bright, just like him.
Mariano’s positivity is genuinely contagious. Talking to him leads to a natural unfolding of the conversation, accompanied by laughs and jokes, cohesive with what we have briefly understood to be his character. Positive, joyful, and determined, all characteristics that allow for the listener to understand his creativity and passion for storytelling.
