Constitutional court to review law about Medically Assisted Procreation
Only “married or cohabiting adult couples of the opposite sex” are eligible for Medically Assisted Procreation (MAP), according to Article 5 of Law 40 of 2004. The judges of the Constitutional Court are expected to begin reviewing the law’s legitimacy. The case originates from an appeal filed in September 2024 by a 40-year-old woman from Turin, whose request for access to MAP was denied.
Magistrates call for protection
The United Sections of the Court of Cassation decided to grant asylum to a migrant on the ship Diciotti. This caused “offensive comments” which undermine “the court’s prestige and role”, as the Supreme Council of the Judiciary (CSM) members said in a note. Thus all the magistrates of CSM and 3 lay members requested the presidency to open a protection file for the United Sections of the Court of Cassation.
