Italy demands full guarantees and freedom for the journalist Cecilia Sala

Zeta Italy News Italy has called on Tehran to provide “total guarantees” regarding the detention conditions of Italian journalist Cecilia Sala. The ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations stressed that “the timing and conditions of Sala’s detention will serve as a clear indication of Iran’s true intentions and attitude toward the Italian Republic”.

New Year’s Eve night in jail for former mayor of Rome

The young woman, of Latin American origin and residing in the province, had attended the event with friends when she met a man. She allegedly followed him in the bathroom where she was forced into a non-consensual sexual act. Authorities are investigating.

A newborn found lifeless in a church

“My phone did not ring” said the priest of San Giovanni Battista church in Bari. A newborn was found lifeless in the thermal cradle of the church. The person who left the baby did not close the door of the room housing the cradle and the alarm did not ring. Police is investigating to discover if the baby was already dead when he was left in the church.

Homophobic aggression in Rome 

A young couple has been beaten in Malatesta quarter in Rome the night of December 31. The lovers were coming back home after midnight, holding their hands, when they were allegedly assaulted with homophobic insults and fists by a group of ten people. The LGBTQ+ associations will attend a manifestation on January 4 in Malatesta zone. 

Blaze in a historical palace in Venice

Tourist went out to spend the New Year’s Eve in San Marco Place in Venice but they forgot to put out the candle in the bathroom of the hotel room. The fire involved the room at the at the San Cassiano Hotel in Venice but the immediate intervention of the firefighters avoid the risk of bigger fire. The guests were evacuated and no one was injured. 

Over 2,200 dead or missing in 2024 in the Mediterannean 

Regina De Dominicis, Unicef’s regional director, highlighted the dire toll after a boat sank off Lampedusa, leaving 20 missing. This crisis underscores the urgent need for coordinated international action. More than 2,200 people, including hundreds of children, perished or disappeared in the Mediterranean in 2024, with 1,700 deaths on the central route.

Stylist and pioneer of Italian fashion, Rosita Missoni died at the age of 93 years old. Founder with her husband of the Missoni Italian fashion design brand, in 1953, she contributed to develop the style through colors, geometric patterns and high quality of the texture. 

Farewell to Nora Orlandi, voice of RAI’s golden era

Nora Orlandi, singer, composer, and pianist, passed away in Rome at 91. Founder of I 4+4 di Nora Orlandi, she was a key figure in 1960s-70s Italian TV, contributing to shows like Canzonissima and festivals like Sanremo. RAI journalist Barbara Carfagna remembered her fondly, calling her “a pillar of RAI.” Orlandi’s music shaped an era, leaving a lasting legacy.
